It’s like the movie 12 Monkeys, but the Monkeys are Chinese. It all started when Xiangguo Qiu arrived at the Canadian lab to work on virus research. People didn’t think much at first, just a quiet researcher who wanted to learn all there was to learn about viruses. But then slowly she began to have assistants arrive from China until she had built a whole team of Chinese, working and being paid for by the Canadian government.
Then she asked to work on some of the most dangerous viruses – Ebola, Nipah and Herpa. And was learning how to modify them to make them more dangerous.
After a few months, she filled out the paperwork, and sent her team and the deadly viruses back to China. It was all legal, all legit. She had done the right paperwork.

Ebola is classified as a “category A” bioterrorism agent by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, meaning it could be easily transmitted from person to person, would result in high death rates and “might cause panic.” The CDC lists Nipah as a category C substance, a deadly emerging pathogen that could be engineered for mass dissemination. A Chinese gene hacked Nipah might be a category D substance – worldwide epidemic of death.
Nipah was first seen in in Malaysia in 1998, has caused a series of outbreaks across east and south Asia, with death rates as high as 100 per cent, according to the WHO. It can cause encephalitis, an often-fatal brain swelling, and has no known treatment or vaccine. The swelling is so severe, in many cases the brain explodes out through the cranium. Nipah is so feared, that a dying patient upon being told he had Ebola said “oh thank god, I thought I had Nipah”
The Johns Hopkins exercise — called Clade X — involved a version of Nipah modified to be more easily passed between people. America’s Blue Ribbon Study Panel on Biodefence prefaced its 2015 report with a scenario involving the intentional release of Nipah by aerosol spray.
One reason Nipah is so terrifying is that it is spread by bat droppings. The bats shit on the palm date trees so do NOT eat foreign dates – you could end up less a head. The areas where the fruit bats swarm are all infected with Nipah. The fruit bats are immune to Nipah so they become deadly carriers, but the pigs are not so lucky, many start banging their heads into the wooden rails the pain is so great. In Malaysia, several herds of pigs had to be slaughtered because of Nipah.
“They were trying to make a version of Nipah which wouldn’t effect Chinese people” said one fellow researcher who wished to remain anonymous, “But they needed to finish the research in China, the USA doesn’t have as advanced CRISPR gene altering tech”
“She was a very sweet researcher, everyone liked her. I hope they let her back” said another co-worker.
